Time flies, it's almost the end of summer break, and the forth/ last sessions of TrinityScholar's summer group class of SAT/ ACT/ L3 are about to start. Here are some feedback from the Session 1 and 2 students, which made us burst into happy tears, no kidding!
V.C., (SAT Advanced class 7/1-7/18)
With the help of the teachers here at Trinity Scholar, I’ve managed to improve my SAT score by 150 points overall in just three weeks. Math was initially the subject I was weaker at. Ever since I started preparing for the SAT, I haven’t been able to score over 650 for my math. However, on the last mock test we had for the SAT summer course, I managed to score a 760 for math. I am very thankful for the kind and understanding teachers here for always supporting me and helping me analyse my problem and find ways to improve.

Trinity Scholar motivates me to push myself. As a kid with a short attention span, studying for even the subjects I usually enjoy is a challenge. Hello! This time, we'd like to share you the L3 Honors Class about the issue of fake news. The development of technology is extremely rapid, and there is more and more fake news which seems quite authentic. The ability to identify fake news has become an important skill nowadays.
Facebook is the most popular social media nowadays, and it is a platform full of fake news. Many Facebook users have asked Facebook team to forbid those unreal posts, whereas Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook, said that all the Facebook users have the right to enjoy the freedom of speech, therefore they would not ban the fake news.
The statement irritated some netizens, and they made a fake video with Mark saying that he wanted to rule the world to satirize the social media giant’s policy. Fortunately, Facebook started to take actions by using 43 fact-checking organisations.
Besides the language, teacher also wanted to cultivate pupils’ cognitive ability, hoping that students will not blindly believe everything that is posted on the internet.

- Many educators and parents continue to believe that acceleration is bad for children—that it will hurt them socially, push them out of childhood or create knowledge gaps. - For us, this article was quite refreshing and encouraging because the findings provided scientific support for some of the observations that we have made over the past 20 years in Taiwan.
- The point about spatial aptitude explains why we see many Taiwanese who seemingly fall through the cracks under Taiwan’s education system thrive when they go overseas and into an education system where this are multiple paths towards advancement.
- It also explains why there are no (or very few) “geniuses” in Taiwan despite the fact that Taiwanese are very “smart” as acceleration is not possible under Taiwan’s system and there are few opportunities even for gifted children to pursue their interests at an accelerated pace. We do believe in part this is due to cultural issues that place an overemphasis on seniority and “paying your dues.”
- Above all, I think this makes a very strong argument that the aim of good or effective education needs to be nurturing, personalized and inspirational as opposed to the rote memorization that is so prevalent in Asia. We particularly dislike the fact that a lot of content for children in Taiwan is “dumbed down” or patronizes kids.

First of all, congrats to our Grade 11 student, G.W., who just got his April ACT score report, and he got 34!! 34 out of 36, 99th percentile! We are all so proud of him. G.W. joined TrinityScholar since 2017, and back then his first ACT mock exam was 26. Over the last two years, G. has been with TrinityScholar for his Math, Chemistry as well as ACT via Skype during semesters and in-person when summer vacation. Today’s topic was a bit series, the impact of Globalization to the society, economics, culture, political, and so on. Nevertheless, the class interaction was active still.

Goal：To practice the pros and cons of one topic, from setting up the tone, looking for proof and debating.
So, one of the pros of Globalization are of course the smoother flow of information and resource; however, is it also the cause of bigger gaps between the haves and have-nots?
In terms of social cultures, the teacher also raised a question about whether we should keep the mother tones. The teacher shared the current theories/ ideas from both sides to stimulate the class’ discussion and well-round thinking and also encouraged the class to persuade one another with their own thoughts.
Even sitting outside the classroom, we felt the enthusiasm from the class discussion. Through this kind of meaningful topics, the goal is to let students practice their critical thinking in fluent English.

Goal: Compare and contrast how watching TV has changed over the year
First, the teacher-led discussion about the article, The Box That Changed America, from the ancient black and white TVs to the populations at different times, how the evolution of the technology, and the meaning behind.
Then, students compare the TV now and before in terms of the color, size, number of TV shows, watching hours, convenience and so on, and then draw how the TV would be in the future.
At the last part of the class, writing, the students could choose their topic, anything related to TV shows, such as favorite cartoon or TV programs, and the writing should cover the reasons why they like the show, the characters in the show, what's special about it, and so on.
